That Little Wine Bar Penang

That Little Wine Bar Penang
Little Wine Bar - 54 Jalan Chow Thye, 10050 George Town, Penang, Malaysia
Phone: 04-226 8182

Hours:
Monday-Saturday 5PM-1AM
Closed Sunday

Wedged in between the many restaurants and cafés that sit along Chow Thye Road, a road showcasing restored pre-war buildings; sits a romantic little wine bar with a big wine list.

Cozy seating in a dimly lit, comfy little wine bar.
The outside patio is also wonderful for natural lighting, and breezy days.

That Little Wine Bar offers wine tasting classes every Wednesday from 6:30PM-7:30PM; tasting classes are a great way to try out unfamiliar wine regions and varieties as well as enabling yourself to becoming a smarter wine consumer.

An entertaining wine list indeed, that differs itself from the rest of Penang; this place gives you the perfect chance to drink outside of the usual varieties found in here.
Instead of opting for a bold Shiraz from Australia, give the variety Zweigelt from Austria a try.  Love Pinot Noir but want to give something else a chance? Try their St. Laurent from Austria, you'll be sure to become intoxicated by the perfumed aromas of raspberry and baking spices.

Spotting a few bottles from Gascogne on their list just made my day. I absolutely adore the refreshing whites of Côtes de Gascogne, and rarely come across them in Asia! When these whites come to mind I think....green apple, honeysuckle and aromas of blossoms.

What was once a horse stable is now no more; let's face it, wine smells much better anyway!  Located in the bustling area of George Town, this pretty little wine lounge has kept its' rustic charm.  Something old, something new, something complex, or even bottles that are rare and very few; is what to expect out of the cellar.

GeorgeTown Wines
To the left is their wine bar
To the right is their fine dining area
Both locations have a 2nd floor

A view of  the wine bar

Cheese boards, meat boards, finger food, and much more; whatever dish you choose the staff at GeorgeTown Wines can recommend the perfect food and wine pairing, or you can take a walk through the wine cellar and let your imagination run wild.

The 2nd floor of the wine bar is the perfect place to sit back and relax with a glass of wine in your hand.

The house reds are kept in a wine preservation machine to ensure that each glass is as fresh as the last.

Whites by the glass are vacuum pumped to guarantee freshness.
Happy hour started off with glasses of buy one get one free (Semillion Sauvignon Blanc) blends from Australia.

House reds also apply to the happy hour special.
I gave the Eye Spy Yarra Ridge Australian Shiraz a try...simple description...dark berries and barn yards! The  description is almost fitting for what this building was long ago.

I did not give this bottle a try, but was told this red was more on the sweeter side.

There is no wine list here so take a walk through their wine cellar to choose your wine.
If you are feeling a bit muddled, the manager here is well versed in the wines on offer, and is always happy to help customers find a bottle according to their budget and taste.

Snapshots of the many bottles available at GeorgeTown Wines.

Spanish Wines
Ahhh Bordeaux there you are
California Reds

A few famous producers from the Napa Valley, and the many awards attached to these beautiful bottles.
Prêt à Boire
AU SOMMET
AMUSE BOUCHE
Stags' Leap

A nice little selection of some whites from  Burgundy

An afternoon is always better with a bit of rose

Alsace, located in northeastern France, just across the Rhine River from Germany, supply beautifully expressive and aromatic white wines such as Riesling, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, and Gewürztraminer.
Alsatian whites are definitely my go to wines; they make the perfect pairing partner with spicy Asian cuisine.

A little bit of bubbly is always a wonderful party starter, and a great tool to lift one's spirits.

Happy Hour All Day Long

INCH Food & Bar located amidst the many heritage buildings in George Town; is quite easy to pass by without even giving it a glace, but if you take the time to wonder inside you'll be surprised at the size of this place and how well they incorporate the contemporary meets classic type of design.

INCH...just a short walk past this mural.

Cava is the bubbly of choice for INCH's all-you-can-drink events.

White Wine

Red Wine

Although the wine list is small, these wines will pair easily with the dishes available at INCH.

Try
The papaya salad, phad Thai, and spicy curry dishes with the Two Vines Riesling

The New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc would be the perfect palate cleanser for their fish and chips
and deep-fried soft bone

The char grilled chicken skewers and massaman short ribs with the black pepper, clove and paprika smelling Fat Bastard Shiraz; the aromas and flavors in the wine will complement the smoky and spiced flavors in the dishes.

The sunroof in this spot gives off the perfect lighting for a relaxing happy hour drink.

INCH is the first bar I've come across in Penang that has craft beer!

plus plus (++) means 10% service charge and 6% government tax

Buy 1 get 1 free cocktail special
I decided to give the Moscow Mule and Rose Lychee Cooler a try.
Although both were tasty cocktails, I was hoping the Moscow Mule would be served in a copper mug, but one cannot complain...25rm for two cocktails is a deal!

The 3rd and final room of INCH is where the kitchen is located, it smells amazing in here and each room of INCH bar is different from the next.

Pasta, curries, and Malaysian/Thai style tapas.
